Short glossary
- Backflow
- Unwanted reverse flow of water or other substances toward the potable supply.
- Cross connection
- A link between potable water and something that could contaminate it.
- RP
- Reduced pressure principle assembly. Utilities specify it for higher hazards.
- DCVA
- Double check valve assembly. Used where the utility accepts it for a lower hazard.
- PVB
- Pressure vacuum breaker. Used on some irrigation systems where the utility allows it and backpressure is not expected.
- General Tester
- The SCDES classification that may test assemblies for the public. See General vs Limited.
